Course Description

Our project scheduling course focuses on creating, modifying, and managing schedules. The primary focus is on developing a feasible schedule with contingency plans. However, the course also covers other project management concepts (such as scope, budget, and procurement) where they impact project scheduling. Through the course, participants will work on their own project or a sample project to apply what they are learning.

Course Objectives

The course objectives are for participants to:

  • Learn the building blocks needed to develop a more robust and effective schedule.
  • Build a schedule that includes all primary activities (or “key tasks”) broken down into manageable, correctly sized units.
  • Learn the importance of documenting assumptions.
  • Know and understand the critical path for the project.
  • Use lead and lag times to ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Understand the use of controls and metrics to know if a project is on track and how to bring a project back on track.
  • Utilize tools and techniques to manage project schedules more effectively.
  • Learn risk management strategies and techniques and develop more effective risk responses.
  • Develop contingencies in the schedule based upon changes to scope, budget, and procurement.
  • Organize project communications to provide relevant and timely information.
  • Learn how to set and manage expectations.
  • Learn how to effectively engage, manage, and communicate with project stakeholders.
