Course Description

The specific skills that supervisors, managers, and even individual contributors need to manage within a union environment are often overlooked. To bridge this gap, DuraBante offers training courses for managing in a union environment: an advanced course for those new to union environments and a basic course for those with more experience working with union environments or who need less exposure to topics like negation strategy.

These leadership courses focus on developing a deeper understanding of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) used at your location, as well as the National Labor Relations Act. Through these courses, participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and mitigate associated risks when working in a union environment.

Course Objectives

The objectives across both courses are for participants to:

  • Establish a foundational knowledge of the relationship between a union and the management team (advanced course) or review existing relationships (basic course).
  • Gain greater confidence in managing and leading represented employees within the confines of the CBA (both courses).
  • Understand management’s expectations of frontline leaders when managing and communicating with represented employees (both courses).
  • Understand the CBA and their role in its application and administration (both courses).
  • Understand unfair labor practices (advanced course).
