Utilizing Communication Techniques to Manage Expectations

Background

Our client was looking for a way to improve the performance of their control room personnel and position them to move into supervisory roles if they chose. They wanted industry-relevant instruction that could be applied immediately.

What DuraBante Did

  • Actively listened to the Operators, their concerns, their challenges, and for the gaps in what management needed.
  • Led hands-on interactive workshops using industry-relevant tools to enhance skills like three-way communications and to assist in their roles’ and responsibilities’ development.
  • Provided various leadership techniques and management tools such as “Task Leading Procedures.”
  • Demonstrated communication techniques to gain better understanding of business needs.
  • Worked with each Operator to understand the business need and how to communicate that need to management rather than complaining about not having what was needed.
  • Discussed the difference between managing processes versus managing people.
  • Provided industry-specific background so that class attendees received a better understanding of the drivers for the business and how their roles and responsibilities fit into the bigger corporate picture.
  • Developed the Operators presentation skills, specifically in how to effectively communicate their key messages.
